Sesame is a flowering plant naturalized in tropical regions around the world primarily in Africa. Sesame is cultivated for its edible seeds, which grow in pods. The flowers of the sesame seed plant are yellow, though they can vary in colour from white/yellow to brown/black.

Nigeria is the 3rd largest supply of Sesame Seed to the world. Essential Management work directly with the cultivators of the crop primarily in Northern Nigeria to obtain competitive prices and a large quantity available for export.

Sesame Seed has a wide use and is exclusive to the food industry. The most popular are:

Sesame Seeds are exceptionally rich in iron, magnesium, manganese, copper, and calcium and contain vitamin B1 and Vitamin E. They contain lignans, including unique content of sesamin, which are phytoestrogens with antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. Sesame seeds also contain phytosterols associated with reduced levels of blood cholesterol.

The business cycle for producing Sesame Seeds last for about 8 months with the Summer months, when production drops slightly because of the rains.
